摘要
本文从词法和句法两个层面分析了英语委婉语的语义特征及人们使用委婉语的修饰动机和语用心理。提出了委婉语不仅是一种语言现象 ,也是人们共有的一种思维模式的观点。
This paper summarizes the semantic features of euphemism on both lexical and syntactical basis, analyses how people are motivated rhetorically and pragmatically in using this figure, and concludes that euphemism should be treated not only as a linguistic device but also as a human thought pattern, which has both positive and negative aspects.
