人格在不同的文化中应该至少在一定程度上具有一致性,这是人格跨文化研究者的信念。他们把研究重点放在不同文化的承载者棗各种群组上,对他们的人格进行多项比较研究。结果与预期的相反,他们找到的更多的是这些群组之间在方方面面的差异。已有的跨文化人格研究没有得到多少具有一致性的结论。要得到进一步的发展还必须克服许多困难。在方法学上,尽管文化主位法和文化客位法在理论上大有前景,可是目前它们还只是一种指导思想,都有待深入。

Cross-Cultural researchers believe that personality should possess certain consistency in different culture. They focused their attention on group carriers of varied culture, pursuing carriers?personality. Contrary to their anticipation, much more difference rather than consistency has been found out. And there hasn抰 been a consensus conclusion in cross-cultural personality research. Therefore, more pains-taking efforts have to be paid to further the research in this field. Ernic and etic research may serve as one of the guidelines.
