Unlike Faulkner, Flannery O' Connor didn' t create an enormous Yoknapatawpha county in her short stories, thus she didn't present the various social changes in American South continuously. Through describing separate scenes her short stories create groups of symbolic characters. By symbolism O' Connor reveals the unique historical - cultural message of her time and her desire for a rational and progressive modern society.
