肖洛霍夫在《新垦地》中成功地塑了一个贫苦哥萨克农民狗鱼老大爷形象,这既是个性格开朗、幽默滑稽、爱吹牛撒谎的喜剧人物,又是个愚昧落后、胆小懦弱、言行与现实常有冲突的悲剧人物———是融合了悲喜两种因素的复杂形象,成为世界文学中的一种特殊典型。作家的幽默艺术风格和悲喜结合的特殊典型对中国现当代文学产生了一定影响。

In the novel The Untouched Land Sholohov successfully depicted the image of a poor old Kazal farmer, a comic figure with an open mind, a sense of humor, boasting lies as well as a tragic figure with backward stupidity, cowardice, and odd speech and behaviour in conflict with reality. It was because of the author's humor and combination of both tragic and comic factors that this complicated image has become a typical example in world literature with its influence in the modern and contemporary literature of China. 
