An Initial Discussion on the Classification of Dictionaries of Translation Studies

The classification of dictionaries of translation studies is a fundamental issue in their compilation and study. The present paper addresses this issue by first examining the position of the study of such dictionaries. It shows with diagrams the position of such dictionaries in the system of dictionaries as a whole, and the position of the study of such dictionaries in the system of translation studies as an academic discipline. In its main sections, the paper proceeds to consider the significance of classifying dictionaries of translation studies, and discusses their actual classification by means of a third diagram. The paper concludes with remarks concerning future developments in the compilation and study of such dictionaries.
