复译与文本新生命的生成——以《魔戒》汉译为例

Retranslation and the generativity of text——With Chinese translations of The Lord of the Rings as an example

复译是外国文学译介中的重要现象之一,日益受到译学界的关注。文学翻译的生成性本质特征决定了译本对原作的再现不可能在单次翻译中完成,原作生命的延续与拓展及译作不断传承与丰富的成长历程都有赖于不同时代的译者所进行的复译活动。本文以《魔戒》的汉译为例,从翻译空间的拓展、翻译方案的建构与完善、译者的翻译价值取向等方面,探讨复译与文本生命生成之间的关系。

Retranslation is one of the most important phenomena in the translation of foreign literature and has been attracting growing academic attention in translation studies.Due to the generative nature of literary translation,the reproduction of the original cannot be completed in a single translation.The continuation and expansion of the life of the original,as well as the successive enrichment and perfection of the translation,depend on the translation activities carried out by translators of different eras.Taking the Chinese translations of The Lord of the Rings as an example,this article explores the relationship between retranslation and the generation of a text’s life from the perspectives of the expansion of translational space,the construction and improvement of translation schemes,and the translators’translatorial value orientations as well.
