始兴县历史地理沿革探索

A STUDY ON HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY OF SHIXING COUNTY

本文根据历史文献考古资料,并通过实地调查,探索始兴县置县的历史背景、基本条件、县名的由来及其发展。

Situated in the Zhenjiang basin of Guangdong, Shixing was once a hub of communications between the South and North of the Nanling Mountains and played an important role in exploitation of ancient South China. During the Spring and Autumn Period, merchants traded with each other by way of Shixing. During the Qin and Han Dynasty, it became a strategic point, an example was the famous Hengpu Pass in the Zhenjiang basin, which was built in the Qin Dynasty. In Chinese history, a great many people from North China moved into South China by way of Shixing. In the sixth Yong-an year (A. D. 263)of Wu Kingdom, the culture and economy in Shixing were further developed with the county administrative system being set up. So Shixing is one of the most ancient counties in Guangdong.
