'Thingworld:International Triennial of New Media Art' held at the National Art Museum of China in 2014 attempts to use the works of new media artists around the globe to induce the reflection on the traditional Chinese concept of equal treatment of the 'things' of the world. This essay reviews the excellent works of this exhibition from a spectator's perspective, and discusses environmental and ecological art,a cutting-edge topic in the trend of international new media art presented in this exhibition,as well as the artists' attempt to highlight machines' subject position and autonomy.Generally speaking, the tendency shown in this exhibition of facing up to the relationship between man and technological things, and attempting to respect and perceive the anima of things, provides a conceptual basis for the solution of the technology-induced social, moral and political crises.
