近来,部分报章杂志对英文中的Oriental一词有褒有贬,以后者看法更为突出。本文目的旨在给该词一个较为明确的说法,以便其用。

Some newspapers and magazines have recently carried articles holding that the word 'Oriental' bears with it either a laudatory or derogatory meaning, the latter being dominating. The present paper intends to give a more definite account of this word for its better use.
