《远山淡影》为石黑一雄的处女作,以第一人称视角叙述主人公悦子徘徊于过去与现在、日本与英国的回忆。聚焦于主人公悦子带女儿景子离开日本移居英国这一核心事件,运用修辞叙事理论分析小说人物、叙述者和读者对该事件做出的阐释判断、伦理判断以及审美判断,以此探讨主人公悦子就该事件从逃避到忏悔到补救的心路历程。

A Pale View of Hills is the maiden work of Kazuo Ishiguro.In a first-person perspective, it narrates the mistress Yuezi’ s ( Chinese name) memories wandering between the past and the present, and between Japan and Britain.This article, focusing in the central matter that the mistress brings her daughter to leave Japan and migrate to Britain, analyses the interpretation judgment, the eth-ic judgment and the aesthetic judgment of the fictional characters, the narrator and the audience by applying rhetorical theories, so as to explore the mistress’s mentality from escaping to penance and to remedy.
