贯穿汉学家高罗佩一生的主要事业就是对中国文化的研究与传播。对中国的痴爱使得他的涉猎范围包括琴、砚、书、画、马、猿、春宫与悉昙等,而狄公案小说、琴道和性学这三方面的研究则是他关注的核心。这些研究都依赖于他个人对中国道家与道教思想的释解与想象。狄公案小说的铺陈凸显了他思想中道家与道教因素的叠加,琴道的梳理凸显了他对中国古代知识分子养心主旨的发掘,阴阳之道的考证则是他对中国古人养生思想的考量,但是这些释解都存在着诸多的细节失误。

The main cause in Chinese culture learner Gao Luo-pei's whole life is to study and spread Chinese culture. His infatuated love to China makes him cover a broad scope of Chinese culture,including zither,ink stone,calligraphy,painting,horse,ape,pornography,and so on,among which the three aspects of the Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee,zither playing and sexology are the core he studies. All this relies on his imagination and interpretation of Chinese Taos and Taoist thought. His elaboration of the Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee shows his superposition of Chinese Taoism and Taoist factors: his classification of zither playing shows his exhumation of the spirit of the ancient Chinese intellectuals' health keeping: and his research of Yin-Yang Thought shows his consideration on the ancient Chinese health thought. However,in his interpretations there are many detailed errors.
