The 2008 Olympics organizers launched the volunteer program on June 5,2005,expecting to attract about 100,000 people. The volunteers will help with spectator services,translation, transport,security,medical services and cultural activities.They will be recruited mostly from Beijing universities but also from other Chinese cities hosting events,as well as from abroad. 'It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,'Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee,said. 'Volunteers have one ideal:to promote the Olympic values and to prepare the best conditions for the athletes of the world to compete in a fair and peaceful competition.'
