A shared password authentication scheme is analyzed, and its security weak points and some limitations on its security are pointed. Using the techniques of verifiable secret sharing a shared password authentication scheme based on discrete logarithms is proposed, which has a novel property that the previous shared password authentication scheme do not have, that is, to prevent the PGC, user or authenticator from cheating.
