说“郧阳”地名的几个有关问题——兼与曹相进同志切磋

Several Issues Related to the Place Name of Yunyang—— Exchanging Views with Comrade Cao Xiang-jin

文章认为“郧阳”之名出现距今不足600年,它未曾作过市名;“郧县”并不年轻,其名问世早于“郧阳”200年;“郧县”得名“郧关”,“郧阳”之名由“郧乡”、“郧县”而来;“郧”字并不很生僻,将郧县更名“郧阳县”既有历史意义,亦有现实意义。

This essay holds that the existence of Yunyang as the place name, which is never used as a city name at all, is less than 600 years. The history of the place name of Yun County is 200 years earlier than that of Yunyang. The place name of Yun county originated from Yunguan, and Yunyang comes from Yun Town and Yun County. Yun character is not a rarely used word, in some way the change of the place name from Yun County to Yunyang has both historical and realistic significance.
