This paper reported that the phenomenon of mutual compensation was very obvious in the combination of all arteries at the base of the brain constituting the posterior part of the Willis' ring. Therefore, clinical symptoms would not appear when a small focus took place. The superior part of the brain stem accepted blood supply from both the internal artery and the vertebobasilar artery. The disturbance of blood supply did not easily occur in the superior part of the brain stem. Whether the calider of the posterior communi cating artery was too small or too large was unfavorable to the collateral circulation and blood supply was easily disturbed.
