Thomas Hardy's Darkling Thrush is a perfect combination of romanticism, realism and modernism. Hardy creates in the poem a bleak and desolate atmosphere which symbolizes the corruption and depression of the Victorian Age. Hardy counterattacks his critic and shows his hope for a more promising future.
