Trends of Local Network Development Using Optical Fiber Communications

本文论述光纤区域通信网的发展过程,包括:(1)区域网的逐步扩大,从局域网至城域网和广域网;(2)数据速率的逐步提高,从十兆级至兆兆级,(3)典型的LAN,从Ethernet 发展至FDDI,DQDB;(4)LAN 的网间互连,从网桥至网路和网关;(5)综合业务局域网,从窄带至宽带网;(6)光纤传输线路,从多模发展至单模光纤,实施密集多路频分复用和光放大;(7)从无线接入有线交换网的概念考虑微波无线电LAN 和红外线LAN;(8)大范围广域网将由光波网与微波线路联合组成.

This paper presents the trends of local network development using op-tical fiber communications,including.(1)the expansion of local network,fromLAN to MAN and WAN;(2)the increase of bit rate capacity,from 10 Mb/s to1 Tb/s;(3)typical LAN standard,from Ethernet to FDDI;(4)interconnec-ting LANs,from bridge to router and gateway;(5)integrated services LAN,from narrow band to broadband network;(6)optical fiber transmission lines,from multimode to single mode fiber,application of densely packed multichannelFDM system and fiber amplifier;(7)from the idea of tetherless access to ex-change network to the proposal of wireless LAN;(8)coordination of lightwaveand microwave communications for WAN.
