摘要
“忠实”与“通顺”等任何现有的翻译原则都不足以解决商标汉英翻译的质量问题,因为商标汉英翻译不仅涉及译者的语言、文化、知识等方面的艺术综合能力,而且译者的文字搭配创造性和想象力。本文论述汉英商标翻译中的用词、文化因素、汉字处理三个关键问题,指出解决这三方面的问题应遵循的原则,旨在表明商标汉英翻译需要译者的语言、文化、艺术的综合能力,更需要译者的创造性和想象力。
No current translation principles like 'faithfulness' and 'coherence' can guarantee the good quality of translated trademarks from Chinese into English. C-E translation of trademarks requires translators to be well versed in Chinese, English, as well as cultural and other related knowledge, but also to have the capacity to demonstrate creativeness and imaginativeness in word collocation. By illustrating diction, cultural elements and conversion of Chinese words in C-E translation of trademarks, this paper tries to put forward possible solutions to some relevant problems so as to prove that good translation of trademarks depends not only on translators' comprehensive ability mentioned above, but also on their creativeness and imaginativeness.
