The well- known Yunnan Stone Forest is located at 24°49′N and 103°19′E, 85km southeast of Kunming , the provincial capital of Yunnan, China. It is not only a great tourist attraction, but also of important scientific and aesthetic value. Yunnan Stone Forest is typical Stone Forest karst landscapes. Black algae communities live on the surface of carbonate rocks there. These black algae communities are mainly aerial cyanobactria communities. The paper discusses the types and characters of aerial cyanobactria communities. The types include ink- strap, powder- like, hull- like and film- like algae etc. An aerial cyanobactria community is composed of smaller secondary aerial cyanobactria communities, types of which include small type spherically frond communities, big spherically frond communities, filament frond communities, small type spherically frond big spherically frond communities, small type spherically frond filament frond communities etc.. The paper discusses in great detail the characters of different types aerial cyanobactria communities and secondary communities as well as their relations. It brings to light that the direct relation between macroscopic aerial cyanobactria communities by naked eye and microscopic cyanobactria species by biologic microscope and the interior structure and ecologic relationship of cyanobactria communities. The study is of great significant to explain the formation and evolution of mini- type and small- type corrosion shapes on the surface of carbonate rock of the Yunnan Stone Forest and even whole Stone Forest landscape. And at the same time, it belongs to a new field in aerial algal ecology.
