By examining examples from a Chinese version of an English book on philosophy, the paper renders a typical demonstration of the primary importance of basic language knowledge to translating practice, in which we should first pay enough attention to such intralinguistic relations as syntactic structure,anaphora, cataphora and coreferential or logophoricity, then we can talk about the skill and art, and the function and cognition in translation. This consideration is taken to be significant for making experienced translators sane and sensible and the beginners well matured.
