张謇奠定了南通是我国近代民族工业基地的城市历史地位,创造性建设了独特的"一城三镇"城镇空间形态,改变了古代以中轴线为对称的方形城廓、十字长街的城市形态。这种朴素的田园城市模式既有积极意义,也有消极的影响。
Zhang Jian, industrialist and educationalist, had established Nantong's status as the base of Chinese modern national industry. Based on his ieda, Nantong had gained its unique city layout: the old city area at its center with three towns, Tangzha (an industrial area), Tiansheng (a port) and Langshan (a scenic spot) circling around it. The readjustment of parts of the inner city changed the city's ancient distribution: a symmetrically square with crossroads going through it. This pastoral city distribution pattern decentralized the city's functions and had exerted a tremendous influence on the city's spatial development.
