从逻辑和历史的双重角度来看,美与艺术之间并不存在本质的必然联系。在理论上,美和艺术之间存在着必然联系的假说,是出于为艺术赋予美的价值这样一种动机,即把"艺术应该是美的"和"艺术必然是美的"这两个命题混为一谈。在历史上,艺术的本质是美的这一假定,是18世纪的西方哲学家局限于自己的时代而得出的一个以偏概全的结论。这种传统的误解既不利于美的研究,也不利于艺术研究。

The assumption that there is an essential relation between beauty and art can be falsified theoretically and historically.Theoretically,this assumption might be due to the impulse to attribute beauty,as a value,to art,in which the propositions'art should be beautiful' and 'art is beautiful' are confused with each other.Historically,this assumption is an overgeneralization made by the Western philosophers in the 18th century limited within their own times.The traditional misunderstanding is harmful to both the study of beauty and the philosophy of art.
