燃料电池是一种将化学能转化为电能的最有效的装置。采用生物催化剂的燃料电池称为生物燃料电池,和通常的燃料电池相比,因其使用较易获得的生物催化剂,有高的底物(燃料)亲合性,能在室温和近中性条件下,达到高的反应速度和热力学效率,具有明显的优越性,受到国外学术界普遍重视。近10多年来生物燃料电池的研究有了很大发展,显示了它作为小功率电源的可能性。有人曾预言。
A biofuel cell based on glucose oxidase was described. The cell was mediated by thionine. The energy was drawn from the oxidation of glucose. The max mum power output was about 8 μw/cm^2. The cell yielded a steady-state current density of 20μA/cm^2 which decreased by 20% over 2 weeks. At the same time, the reactions taking place in the anodic compartment was studied. This kind of biofuel cell can be used as a biosensor to detect the substrate. Further optimization of this system may result in its future application to low power requiring devices.
