摘要
Barker(1998)在总结已出现或固定使用的X-ee词的特点基础上提出3个语义制约,即可感知性、事件参与性及意志控制缺乏性.本文以此为理论依据讨论了如何根据词根X来判断X-ee词的意义.作者将词根X分成4类:及物动词,不及物动词,既可及物也可不及物的动词,非动词词根.分析表明,这些规则对理解X-ee词有所帮助,但由于这类词生成能力极强,其词义的最终确定仍需依赖具体语境.
This paper discusses how to comprehend the ee nouns according to the root X based on Barker(1998)'s three essentially semantic constraints, namely sentience, episodical linkedness, and lack of volitional control. The root X is divided into 4 categories: transitive verbs, intransitive verbs, verbs that are both transitive and intransitive, non verbs. The analysis suggests that these principles do help in guessing the meanings of ee nouns; however, due to their genuine productivity, the final definition should be found in the context.
