SOA双折射效应对超短光脉冲光谱特性的影响

Effects of Birefringence in SOA on Spectral Characteristics of Ultrashort Optical Pulses

摘要 探讨了半导体光放大器(SOA)中的双折射效应对超短光脉冲光谱特性的影响。双折射使得SOA对光的相位调制具有偏振相关性,TE模和TM模具有不同的光谱分布,从而总的光谱被展宽。研究表明,超短光脉冲在SOA中发生的光谱展宽中,很大程度上是来源于相位调制的偏振相关性,并与SOA的工作电流、光功率和脉冲形状等因素有关;通过在有源区中引进合适的应变和合适的波导设计,有可能消除这种不利影响。 Effect of birefringence in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) on spectral characteristics of ultrashort optical pulse was investigated based on population equations. Polarization dependence of phase modulation originating from birefringence makes TE and TM modes have different spectrum distribution, thus contributing a considerable part of spectrum broadening for output pulse. This kind of spectral broadening depends on bias current, optical power and pulse shape of input pulse, and can be minimized by appropriate design of waveguide and active region in SOA.
