The arbitrariness and motivation of linguistic signs have long been a dispute in linguistic field, and the focus is whether the arbitrariness exists or not and how to deal with the relationship between arbitrariness and motivation.The author attempts to expound the relationships between them from the point of view of linguistic facts and linguistic theories. The conclusion is that there is some arbitrariness in motivation, and motivation of linguistic signs exists in arbitrariness.
