In the Edo Age,Japan was an introverted country, quite closed to the outside world. Introduced into Japan through SinoJapanese trade, the famous Chinese novel,Outlaws of the Marsh, brought a rush of fresh air to the depressed literary world and the introverted society of Japan. In a short time, the study of Outlaws of the Marsh prevailed throughout the Japanese literary world, which finally led to the popularity of the Edo novels imitative of Outlaws of the Marsh.
