Enrollment expansion in higher education institute: enthusiasm and reason

1999年开始的新一轮扩招,一定程度上拉动了经济增长,满足了人民群众接受高等教育的强烈愿望。但按照教育自身发展的规律,高等教育的发展应受到经济发展、办学主体、教育公平等诸多因素的制约。因此,今后的扩招应服从高等教育可持续发展的要求,坚持理性、适度、内涵发展的原则。

The new round of enrollment expansion started in 1999 fueled the economic growth to some extent and satisfied the strong desire of receiving higher education on the part of the people. However, the law of development of education requires that the higher education development should be constrained by many factors such as economic development, higher learning institutes and equality in education, etc. Therefore, enrollment expansion in future must comply with the demand of higher education sustainable development and must stick to principles of reason, moderation, and inner development. 
