The poem To Autumn, as an ode, presents something new and quite different from the one traditionally defined. Neither is it a gasp in admiration by the poet who was completely overwhelmed in front of sublimity , nor is it an insight of the poet when he committed the whole of himself to the Almighty. On the contrary, it is an ode of the other kind. Generally, there is apparently a sudden realization in Keats'odes or a twinkling of illusion immediately followed by that of disillusion. However, To Autumn is an exception without such a turn. It should be said, to some extent, To Autumn is more a waking dream, an evolution of conjecture as well as a successful empathy than a pure praise of nature, an ode of the secular world.
