Liu Zhaolin has written many excellent novels with Oh, the Gunshot over Shuolun River Valley as his master piece. They revealed the complexity and richness of the military life, and their way of narration is traditional. In the recent years, he has managed to go beyond the limitation of the tradition, probing deep into the souls of the soldiers. This is typically reflected in his novel The 3rd Execution of Capital Punishment.
