城市化水平的高低是经济发展、社会文明进步的重要标志。我国西部民族地区城市化水平低、布局不合理以及功能不足等问题直接影响着该地区的经济社会的发展。在推进城市化的过程中 ,除了借鉴其他国家和地区的经验、做法以外 ,更重要的是要因地制宜 ,根据西部民族地区地广人稀、居住分散、民族多、文化多元等特点 ,重点选择小城市和小城镇的发展模式 。

Urbanization is an important symbol of economic and social development.The low stage of urbanization as well as its unreasonable structure in the western regions of China had an direct influence on the economic development here.In the process of urbanization in these western regions,it is of great importance to learn from other countries and regions and to choose suitable development model according to the actual conˉditions in these regions such as being vast but thinly populated,multi-nationalities,diversity of culture.To build small and medium-sizes towns and cities with national characteristics may be the best choice.
