The Ci Poetry of Su Dongbo and Xin Qiji: A Comparative Study

苏轼和辛弃疾都是宋代豪放词的重要作家,但他们的词风又有着不容忽视的差别。东坡词倾向于从痛苦中求超拔、求解脱,跨越现实的黑暗去追寻理想的光明;而稼轩词则更多地表现了对于现实的苦恨执著和挣扎奋斗,表现了悲愤的呼喊和火一样燃烧的激情。概言之,即东坡旷达,而稼轩悲愤。

Su Shi and Xin Qiji, of the Song Dynasty, were major representatives of the 'haofang school' ci writers, however, they differed significantly in their idiosyncrasies of style. The ci poetry of Su Dongbo expressed his attempt to free himself spiritually from the agonies arising from disappointment at the reality, his desire to leap across the abyss of darkness to greet the aurora of Ideal. Xin Qiji's poetry, on the other hand, manifested his bitter resentment and hatred of the society, letting out a furious outcry of indignation and exhibiting a flaming passion. In sum, Su showed a largess of mind while Xin was sadly indignant.
