The international political situation played an important role in American-English trade talks in 1930s in terms of proposing the talks, opening informal negotiation and holding formal talks. The agreements they finally reached enlarged their trading scope to a certain extert but did not fulfill both needs. Therefore, the significance was limited and should not be exaggerated.
