摘要
英国是发达国家中人口最为稠密的国家之一,早在1000多年前就已经完成了城市化过程。由于城市化和农业的开垦使英国的森林面积急剧下降,森林覆盖率不到20%,是欧洲森林覆盖率最低的国家。过去,英国城市居民要到森林中去休闲是不容易的事,现在由于城市森林的建设,不仅为城市居民提供了许多休闲场所,改善了生存环境,同时在城市森林的建设和管理中创造了不少就业机会,城市森林的建设为整个社会的可持续发展提供了有利条件。
England is one of the most densely populated countries in the developed countries. A thousand years ago England had become an urban society. Because of urbanization, clearance of woodland to agriculture and other industries had reduced woodland cover to less than 20%, the lowest in Europe. With the development of urban forest, the woodland cover has been increasing and the urban environment has been bettering. The development of urban forest in Britain is outlined, the experience of constructing urban forest is summarized in this paper.
