摘要
文明戏是中国早期话剧形式,新民社1914年在上海编演的《女律师》标志着莎士比亚戏剧首次登上职业的文明戏舞台。文明戏时期,无论是翻译者林纾、戏剧表演者还是中国留日学生都主动对莎士比亚戏剧进行了参与性的创造活动,是一种有意而为的文化行为,凸显出文化转译特色,而非被人诟病的文化误读。
Wenmingxi is the early form of modern drama in China. In 1914,The Woman Lawyer( a Chinese adaptation of The Merchant of Venice) adapted by Xinmin She marked the first professional performance of Shakespeare on the Wenmingxi stage. During this period of time,the translator Lin Shu,the practitioners,and the Chinese students in Japan all deliberately rewrote Shakespeare by putting Chinese culture into his stories in order to cater for the Chinese readers/audience,for the newly introduced spoken drama was unfamiliar to the Chinese.
