This paper not only discusses the improvisation practice as a training form needed to be constructed but also considers it in the context of traditional culture care. It proves the possibility of forming a localized improvisation practice. Also, it reveals that the common ideal of different cultural thoughts provides the essential value of improvisation through expounding the compatibility between the view of nature and spirit of Zen in the traditional Tao culture and modern people’s concept of human. I. To support traditional culture in dance improvisation practice As an emerging and foreign training form, dance improvisation practice functions in expanding the vision and range of the Chinese traditional dance disciplines. Also, its essential attributes have coincident connection with the traditional cultural forms. In this sense, heeding the improvisation practice suits the new thought process of the modernized dance teaching. Besides, by combining the cross-cultural common attributes in Chinese and Western dance cultures, the forms of improvisation practice with local and traditional aesthetic characteristics will be finally established, so as to achieve the goals of the dialectical development of inheritance and innovation.II. The concept of human conveyed in dance improvisation practice The most essential feature of dance improvisation is the expression of 'human nature.' It is an internal regulation of the sensations formed by the physical response to the external world. As a new thought process, dance improvisation practice embodies the concept of human emphasizing physical individuality, which provides the possibility of modernizing the traditional dance training. Meanwhile, communicating and linking with the concept of human in the traditional Chinese philosophy, it has formed the physical improvisation and new dance ideas with the characteristics of Chinese traditional culture. Modern body is the medium of individual faith. The faith of body has evolved from a superficial and external behavior to a belief in and respect for the internal world — taking body as the means to convey the wills and understanding the body, mind, and the yin and yang dialectical meanings of body through improvisation.III. The concept of mind-image presented in dance improvisation practice Improvisation, as the body movements to identify the differences between the human beings, is prone to interpret the spiritual world, which coincides with the ontological view of nature in Taoism and spiritual self-reflection in Zen. A variety of traditional religions and philosophical thoughts prove the monogenism of 'one mind' and the 'theory' and 'element' of 'body and mind dualism,' which are transferred conditionally into the improvisational methods and ideas with a traditional philosophical thought process. If we apply svabhava introspection in Zen into the improvisation practice, it will form the mind care with local characteristics — mindlessness. The improvisational body, in other words, is to contemplate the 'self-based' irrational expression of body and then enter into certain metaphysical philosophical thinking, or a body thought process constructing the 'image of body' and 'meaning of image.'In short, through the life experience of integrating mind and body and the establishment of the individual body faith, the improvisational forms with modernqualities will challenge the standardized order of the current world with the care of traditional culture. Subliming body into faith and advancing the formation of the spiritual body is an understanding with the premise of respect for the essence of being. Dance improvisation, first and foremost, is a mind experience. Through the body improvisational forms like Zen practice, we could construct an improvisational method with traditional philosophical thinking, establish the deified body sensation with the faith behind body, and ultimately form the new thought process for improvisation practice with the traditional aesthetic images and philosophical thinking.
