During the recent years, a great deal of progress lias been made for the study of exceptional values of meromorphic functions, and more and more applications and relations to other fields are discovered. This paper is a survey of this field.It contains seven parts. Fundamental concepts and theorems; exceptional values of differential polynomials; meromorphic solutions of difference equations; meromorphic solutions of linear differential equations; deficiencies of composite functions; an inverseanproblem; some open problems.
