对《红楼梦》的两个英译本中"笑道"两字的翻译做比较,从翻译策略和翻译目的的角度找出两个文本在翻译差别上的根源。提出:翻译不是语言层面的简单对应,译文要受到意识形态、翻译诗学、权力关系以及译者同原文作者、译者同译文读者等之间相互关系等社会文化因素的操纵。

This paper mainly deals with how "xiao dao" was translated in different versions of Yang and Hawks, exploring what on earth leads to the difference in translation. It has been pointed out that translation is not the simple case of word-to-word correspondence. The translating process is influenced by such factors as ideology, translation poetics, power relations, and the relationships between translator and source-text author, between translator and the intended target-text readers and between translator and translation initiator.
