Improve Vocabulary Teaching by Probing into Words’Cultural Connotation

本文主要探讨如何发掘语汇文化的内涵,改进大学英语词汇教学,首先介绍发掘英语词汇文化内涵的现实意义,接着从神话故事、经典名著、海洋文化、宗教文化多方面论述词汇文化蕴涵对英语词汇教学的积极作用,最后提出改进词汇教学的具体措施。

This paper intends to improve the vocabulary teaching by probing into the cultural connotation of English words. After introducing the theoretical foundation and practical significance of lexical cultural connotation ,"cultural connotation"is discussed with the illustration of example given from the aspects of mythology, classical literature, religious culture and seafaring culture. The specific measures of how to dig into a word’s cultural meaning is then suggested.
