Chinese character, 谌, was pronounced both as ch?n and shèn since ancient times. However, most of modern dictionaries had only one pronunciation of chen. The author does an investigation into history of the two pronunciations of the Chinese character谌and makes the comparison between the synonyms from the perspective of dialect to explain the reasons of remaining one pronunciati and to prove the existence of two pronunciations of谌in history and on. .
