Published in the context of Postmodernism,Song of Solomon—the third novel by Toni Morrison, embodied itself with many postmodern narrative elements. For example, besides the narrative authority of omniscient narrator, the closure structure of circular narrative has also been undercut. It both employs the strategy of narrative regression and subverts the western biblical narrative and African mythic structure. By overthrowing the traditional narrative conventions,Toni Morrison destroys reader's dependence on authority and expectation of absolute truth and creates a fictional world with forever indeterminacy and everlasting unsolved problems.
