Research On the Contemporary Forms of the Flower-and-Bird Painting

当代是对现代而言,是指上世纪八、九十年代以来的二十多年,当代花鸟画的特征是继承传统院体画、文人画和民间美术,在此基础上,形成三大形态:新院体花鸟画、新文人花鸟画和新民间花鸟画,代表人物为江宏伟、江文湛、韩美林等人。但由于当代画家中西绘画修养与前辈画家的差异,花鸟画大师的出现尚需拭目以待。

Contemporary, corresponding to modern, refers to the period of about twenty years from eightieth and ninetieth decade till now. Contemporary flower-and-bird painting develops from the bases of Court Art, Scholar Painting and Folk Art, and brings about three new forms-New Court Art, New Scholar Painting and New Folk Flower-and-bird Painting. Although we have Jiang Hongwei, Jiang Wenzhan and Han Meilin as representatives in practicing the new forms, the title of"Chinese Master in flower-and-bird painting" aren’t obtained yet as contemporary painters can’t catch up with their seniors concerning their accomplishments in painting.
