A Rustic Opinion on Liu Xinwu’s Continuation of A Dream of Red Mansion

刘心武新续"红楼"是继其"秦学"系列节目在央视《百家讲坛》播出后,引起世人高度关注的文化事件,但评价一部作品不能仅凭社会反响大小去进行单维价值判断,同时应考虑曹雪芹的"原意"、"原笔"以及与清代文化语境是否契合的问题。从作品实际考察,刘心武还是按照解读"秦可卿"的探佚思路去续《红楼梦》,这样的"探佚",倾向性和个人色彩就非常强烈,并且必然会导致对相关红学文献的诠释过度甚至曲解,红学探佚如不加以节制,就必然走向误区,很容易与索隐派合流,离《红楼梦》原著和脂批提示的情节越来越远。

Liu Xinwu’s Continuation of A Dream of Red Mansion has become a highly concerned cultural event after his'Studies of Qin Keqing'lecture series showed on CCTV'Lecture Room'. However, we should not only make a single-dimensional judgment based on the social response to the literary work, but also take other things into consideration, such as the original intension and linguistic style of the author, and the cultural context of the Qing Dynasty. As for the content of Liu’s work, he continued and completed the writing of A Dream of Red Mansion, consistently using the method of'probing the lost chapters', in which he had studied the character of Qin Keqing. But this so-calle d'probing the lost chapters', with a strong individual inclination, will inevitably lead to over-interpretation and misinterpretation of the relevant documents of Redology. Therefore, if the method of 'probing the lost chapters'is out of control, it will be easily misguided and mixed up with 'the school of searching for hidden meaning', driven increasingly far from the original work of A Dream of Red Mansion and the plot hinted by Zhi Yanzhai.
