Literature and Litterateur: Based on “Uniqueness” of Literature

詹安泰(1902-1967),字祝南,号无庵,广东饶平人,毕业于广东高等师范和广东大学中国文学系。1938年起,任中山大学教授,担任中文系主任、古典文学研究室主任。一生致力于古典诗词研究,著有《花外集笺注》、《碧山词笺注》、《宋词散论》等。詹安泰去世后,后人陆续整理出版其古典文学研究著作,以2011年上海古籍出版社六卷本《詹安泰全集》最为详细,但仍有遗漏。该文为《詹安泰全集》轶文,原载《新时代月刊》1946年第9期,詹安泰在其中论述了对文学研究的独特看法,不乏真知灼见。故从安徽省图书馆抄录并整理如下,原文有缺字用□代替,文字有讹误处用按语指出。

Zhan Antai(1902-1967), whose courtesy name was Zhunan, alias Wu'an, was born in Raoping, Guangdong province. He graduated from Guangdong Higher Normal School, and Department of Chinese Literature, Guangzhou University. Since 1938, Zhan Antai worked as professor, dean of Department of Chinese Literature, and director of Classical Literature Research Center at Sun Yat-sen University. Moreover, he dedicated his whole life to the study of Chinese classical poetry, and wrote a great many academic works, such as Notes and Commentaries on Huawaiji, Notes and Commentaries on Bishanji, Random Analysis on Ci-poetry in Song Dynasty, etc. After Zhan's death, his academic works on classical poetry have been collated and published. Among them, The Complete Works of Zhang Antai in six volumes is the most comprehensive and detailed edition, which is published by Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House. However, there are some omissions in the edition, for example, the article'Literature and Litterateur: Based on ‘Uniqueness' of Literature'. This article appears in the 9th issue of New Time Monthly(Xinshidai Yuekan) published in 1946, and Zhan argued his distinct views on literature studies through it. Arguably there are some gems in his views, so the collator transcribes the article'Literature and Litterateur: Based on ‘Uniqueness' of Literature'according to the historical documents in AnHui Library, and makes some collating and revising: every missing word in the original text is marked with'□', and the textual errors are pointed out by collator's annotations.
