Literary Classics and the Cultivation of Foreign Language Talents in the New Era:Ⅰ. Babbitt and F. R. Leavis Revisited

新时代背景下,高校外语专业的改革与发展充满机遇和挑战。文章通过分析相关专家对外语专业改革的讨论,简要论证人文教育在新时代外语专业人才培养中的核心地位;并通过讨论白璧德和利维斯两位重要的批评家对文学经典与大学人文教育关系的论述,力图为我国新时代高等教育外语专业人才培养提供参考和借鉴。

In the new era,foreign language programs of higher education are full of opportunities and challenges.The present paper,based on some scholars’research achievements,demonstrates that liberal arts play a crucial role in the cultivation of foreign language talents in the new era.Babbitt’s and Leavis’s ideas of the relationship between literary classics and liberal education at the university level may shed light on the cultivation of foreign language talents in China.
