英语外向型学习词典中抽象名词释义的局部语法研究——以《牛津高阶英语词典》(第8版)外壳名词语料为例

On the Definitions of Shell Nouns in English Learners’ Dictionaries——A Local Grammar Perspective

外向型学习词典的词条释义因其读者群体和功能具有独特性。基于Schmid(2000)外壳名词的发现,该研究从《牛津高阶英语词典》(第8版)提取出656个外壳名词释义,建立小型语料库;然后借鉴Sinclair (1991)和Barnbrook (1995;2002)等整句释义的研究结果,采用局部语法的路径对上述外壳名词释义进行分析,以揭示抽象名词的释义范式。该研究对汉语外向型学习词典释义的理论研究与实践以及计算机语言处理均有一定的启示。

Entry definition in learners’dictionaries is unique from that in general dictionaries just as its readership and function suggests.To uncover such uniqueness,a corpus of 656 shell nouns definitions from Oxford Advanced Learners’Dictionary(8 th Ed)was set up based on Schmid’s(2000)studies on English shell nouns.In the light of the research findings of Sinclair(1991)and Barnbrook(1995;2002)on sentence definitions,an analytical framework was established to investigate the taxonomy of definition structures,the distribution and frequency of recurrent patterns of these shell nouns in details.These findings are conducive to the theoretical study of definitions in learners’dictionary,the compilation practice of learners’dictionary and computational language processing in general as well.
