This paper makes a brief analysis of Alice Munro's universal concern for ordinary people's life in I've Been Meaning to Tell You, a short story written in 1974. In this story, Alice Munro gave a delicate account of the entanglements of daily life in a sincere and plain way, and presented it to the readers without much of her own comment, which leaves room for the readers themselves to relish. This paper claims that the story I've Been Meaning to TellYou embodied Alice Munro's universal concern for human life, and conveyed the message that life is changeable and unpredictable and the acceptance of all this is the indication of respect for the essence of life, appreciation for regrets and adaptation to conflicts in reality.
