斯坦利·卡维尔的哲学研究不是单纯地深钻哲学理论,而是试图在文学和艺术领域里寻找哲学真理,实现自己的哲学理想。他由怀疑论出发,关注日常语言哲学、探究不同哲学传统之间的互动关系、寻找哲学与文学的关系以及哲学与艺术的关系。哲学的任务是使自己在"认可"与"拒斥"之间找到平衡,并从"超验的""形而上"的位置向"日常的""形而下"的位置过渡;在文学和艺术中被讲述的真理体现的是最好的哲学。

The philosophy study of Stanley Cavell is not simply digging into abstract philosophical theory, but trying to seek for philosophical truth in the field of literature and art and achieve his philosophical ideal. His philosophical study is originated from skepticism, focusing at ordinary language philosophy, exploring the connections and relations among different philosophy traditions and investigating how philosophy relates to literature and to art. The task of philosophy is to find itself a balance between 'acknowledgement' and 'rejection', and to transit itself from 'transcend' and 'ascent' to 'ordinary' and 'common'. The best philosophy is the truth expressed in literature and art.
