Classifiers are important parts of Chinese and Tibetan Languages.Chinese classifiers are rich and varied,reflecting the unique way of thinking and sociocultural history of the Han nationality.The monograph,written by Song Jiang,The Semantics of Chinese Classifiers and Linguistic Relativity was published by Routledge press in 2017,a total of eight chapters,and 215 pages.This book employs the cognitive linguistic theories to make a systematic study of the semantics of the Chinese classifiers,analyzes the semantic features and evolution rules of them in detail.Moreover,this book discusses the rationality of Language Relativity with the empirical study of the classifiers,and further reveals the relationship between language and thinking from the Chinese point of view.In addition,this book also applies cognitive linguistic theories to the practice of Chinese classifier teaching,and finds that it has an unparalleled advantage over traditional teaching methods and has improved the effect of the teaching of classifiers.From a novel perspective,this book theoretically deepens the study of Chinese classifiers,the relationship between language and thinking,and verifies the effectiveness of the cognitive vocabulary teaching method in practice.
