中国非英语专业大学生英语惯例语能力研究

A study of Chinese non-English major undergraduates’ competence in English routines

摘要 为了解非英语专业学生英语惯例语能力,本文采用多媒体引导法、恰当性判断法及回顾式访谈对92名大一学生进行调查研究。结果显示:1)学生在特定语境下不能像本族语者一样恰当地表达惯例语,但其话语可实现一定的语用功能,能被本族语者所接受;2)学生不能完全恰当地理解英语惯例语;3)学生倾向一种惯例语形式而忽视其他形式。本文建议,教师应加强惯例语知识的显性教学,重点探讨形式不同而语用功能相同的惯例语之间的异同,尽可能多地提供覆盖惯例语用法的教材和视频。 To understand Chinese non-English major students’ competence in English routines, the study surveyed 92 freshmen by employing the Multimedia Elicitation Task, the Appropriateness Judgment Task, and the Retrospective Interview. The results showed: 1) Students could not produce native-like routines in certain contexts, but their utterances could fulfill pragmatic functions and be overall accepted by native speakers; 2) they could not fully understand the appropriate use of routines; 3) they focused more on one linguistic form of routines rather than various forms. The study suggests that teachers should enforce explicit teaching of routines, primarily discuss the differences and similarities between various forms of routines that fulfill the same pragmatic function, and provide as many textbooks or videos with various routines as possible.
